Whygo2 Oman
Letsgo2 employees have travelled extensively to the destinations we feature. Here are the five main reasons they would consider a holiday to Oman.
Beaches
Oman is lined with over 1600 km of coastline and stunning beaches with much of it accessible. There is just about any activity the average beach goer can find from sunning, swimming, diving, snorkelling, boating and surfing. In the Muscat area several major hotels are on beach front property.
Restaurants and Cuisine
It is no wonder that Omani cuisine is a tasty blend of flavours as Oman lies at the crossroads of the Middle East, Africa, and the Far East. A long tradition of seafaring and trade has brought culinary influences to the Sultanate from the far reaches of the known world. Over time these have been adopted into the ethnic tastes of the country. The diverse terrain of the country has created styles of cooking that vary from region to region. The restaurants in the city, unlike Dubai outside of the hotels sell alcohol, offer good value for money along with a good variety of ethnic and international cuisine.
Things to Do
Oman is a very varied country and offers a variety of activities from visiting some of the oldest cities in the world to the excitement of wadi bashing drives as well as the desert safaris. A must is the Turtle watching on the beach at Sur, as well as the area to the north which is christened the Norway of Middle East, where you can see whales and dolphins at certain times of the year. In the south of the country lies Salalah which is a tropical climate and offers a totally different experience.
Sporting and Recreational Activities
Diving in Oman is a dream with 1600 Km of coastline, and clean, unpolluted waters, Oman is one of the best kept secrets in the diving world. There are a number of dive agents who will arrange trips to the numerous coral reefs surrounding the Sultanate. The diving available in Oman provides adventure and enjoyment with dramatic wall drop-offs to scenic coral lined fjords, ranging in depth from 6 to 40 metres. Kayaking tours are available among the fjords of Bander Al-Kheran in Muscat and traversing is a family fun trip out over the water. Deep sea fishing is also available and offers a variety of exciting fish to challenge the experienced angler.
Climate
The varied geography of the Sultanate resulted in a wide variety of climatic conditions. Although lying in the tropics, the Sultanate is subject to seasonal changes like the more temperate regions of the world. The hottest months are June through August. The summer monsoon just touches the southern coast of Dhofar during these months bringing regular light rain to Salalah and reducing the average daytime highs to 30c. The most pleasant months to visit Oman are mid October through March when daytime temperatures fall into the lower 30c and below.
